Introduction. The Glossarium presents definitions for Latin terms used to annotate information included with many of the taxon accounts (genera, subgenera, species, and subspecies) in this nomenclator. These terms and their definitions (translated into six languages) were originally included within the text of the Prolegomena in N.O. (Reynolds and Cook, 1976 — located near the end of the section, ‘How to use Nomenclatura Oligochaetologica’) and used throughout N.O., N.O.S.P., and N.O.S.S. These terms and their definitions were later expanded for inclusion in the Glossarium chapter in N.O.S.T. – the third supplement in the original N.O. series (Reynolds and Cook 1993: 5-7). * = terms first included in N.O.2 [this current online version]

Below, we present the Glossarium for this second edition of Nomenclatura Oligochaetologica – modified to be both congruent with (and correct errors in) the information as presented in the original N.O. series, and applicable to a web-based format that will include terminology and other information pertinent to new taxonomic, morphological, physiological, and systematic techniques (e.g., DNA sequencing and bar coding procedures, and repositories for that information).
The Glossarium for this second edition is presented in 12 languages: English, French, German, Portuguese, Russian, Simplified (Mandarin) Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Italian, Spanish, Greek, Japanese, and Malayalam.
We thank our colleagues who have kindly provided translations of this Glossarium in their native languages; their names and institutional affiliations are presented under the Translation section on the Gratiarum Actiones page. We invite our colleagues to provide us with translations of this Glossarium, as well as the Prolegomenon for this second edition, in additional languages.

Glossarium enthält die Erläuterung der lateinischen Fachausdrücke, welche bei vielen Taxon-Einträgen Zusatzinformationen liefern. In der Erstveröffentlichung N.O. (Reynolds und Cook 1976) waren diese Fachausdrücke und ihre Erläuterungen sechs-sprachig dem Text der Prolegomena angegliedert (gegen Ende des Abschnitts ‘How to use Nomenclatura Oligochaetologica’, mit Erläuterungen auf englisch, französisch, deutsch, portugiesisch, russisch und chinesisch). In der späteren N.O.S.T. (Reynolds und Cook 1993: 5-7) waren sie im Kapitel ‘Glossarium’ untergebracht.
Der Text im vorliegenden Glossarium wurde modifiziert, um den Informationen der ursprünglichen Print-Serie und dieser zweiten Auflage im online-Format gleichermassen gerecht zu werden.
